My Opinion About SkinVideo:
Update - Posted on May 16th, 2007 : So it's final, GUBA no longer exists as a site, all has been renamed to SkinVideo. The site offers pretty much the same as the old GUBA, but it's better organized, offers better design and a more flexible pricing structure. So I deleted the old GUBA review and created a new one for SkinVideo. The old Guba review is still below thou.
To sum up the main differences, let me do a quick update : First, there is the name change, site focuses more on videos now, hence the name SkinVIDEO. They now offer a cheap unlimited trial, so you can take a look for just $2.95. There was no streaming option in the past, now there is, so you can watch the videos without waiting for the whole files to download. They have an in-built flash player set up for this. There are also more video formats to choose from, including I-tunes support.
I think the site improved quite a bit over the years. There is still this huge amount of content, the site is better organized, more emphasis is put on videos, they offers streaming ... and there is this cheap trial option. I say, go for it. End of update.
Update - posted on 18th May, 2006 :I just noticed GUBA has been renamed to SkinVideo. I don't really know the reason for the change, but it doesn't really matter as the site is still the same, except for a small design change. They use pretty much the same layout in the members area, the same search functions and they even kept the guba.com domain, just adding a skinvideo subdomain. I'm posting this update to prevent you from getting confused in the first place :). End of Update.
Update - posted on 28th October, 2005 : Since we first visited GUBA, almost two years ago, there have been quite a few improvements made. For one, all Usenet content is now archived for well over a month from the date it is first grabbed by the GUBA spiders. The site continues to look exceptionally sleek and easy to navigate. Its search engine is one of the most powerful tools anywhere on the web, and fully customisable. Your personal member area is also customisable and can be set to show your favourite groups' content and your latest searches.
A lot of the available videos can now be previewed in flash thumbnails before being downloaded. Images can be previewed or viewed full-sized in slideshows at several different speeds. Spam and ads' detection tools also seem to have been reinforced and are working extremely well.
In these two years, there were quite a few changes, but one thing hasn't: GUBA is still, by far, the best way to access and navigate through the world of Usenet. End of Update.
Original Review Follows : GUBA (Gigantic Usenet Binary Archives) is not the average porn website, you are used to. Actually it is not even a website, so to speak. I would compare it to some program or user agent, that is searching a huge amount of adult related (and unrelated) Usenet groups, while grabbing all the new posted images or videos. Once the process is finished, all the pics and vids are thumbnailed and presented to you in an easy-to-use interface.
I assume many of you heard about Usenet in the past, or even use it actively, but for those who are not familiar with the concept, I shall provide some more info :-) Usenet could be compared to a huge network of small sites, each managed by it's owner (regular people like you and me:-). The owner of a particular Usenet group, posts his personal image or video collection and let's other users see it.
The biggest problem with Usenet groups is, that it is a real mess. Imagine hundreds of different groups, each managed by someone else, each dealing with something different. I am sure you can imagine, that browsing through all this groups can be a real pain in the ass. And this is the reason for services like GUBA to exist. They do all the work for you, actually their spiders do :-) Every single day, the spiders do their work and bring new stuff for you - all content is archived for about 10 days or so and then replaced with new one.
So in case you want to save yourself the headache of browsing hundreds of newsgroups just to find what you are looking for, I say go with GUBA. And what can you actually find inside of these Usenet newsgroups? Well, pretty much all that porn industry has to offer. Pictures, videos, articles ... whatever you are looking for :-) And there is a huge amount of content available : you can always checkout about 500 000 pics and hundred thousands of small video clips.
Ok so much for the positives, now let me tell you more about the negative side. There is no quality guarantee, the pictures will cover all quality ranges, from really poor to fucking awesome. Same goes for the videos, there will be short clips without sound as well as longer scenes in high quality. Many of the pics carry URL's on them (it's a form of advertisement) and you will run across some spammy groups. But with such a huge amount of content available, you are always presented with more than enough high quality porn stuff to look at :-)
Well, what else should I tell you about GUBA? Maybe I shouldn't forget to mention the quite advanced organization. Each picture and video clip comes with a thumbnail, so you know what you are going to download. Moreover, each of the groups also has a short description, actually almost all the pics and vids carry comments of some kind. Pretty advanced system for an automated program, don't you think? Hell, not even every "human driven" paysite offers so much details about their content :-)
And the last, but by any means not the least important fact : the content here really covers everything you can think of. Whatever turns you on, you are guaranteed to find related content here. Be it amateurs (lots of personal pics), asians, big tited girls, mature ladies, extreme fetishes of all types ... you will find everything you want to, and even stuff that you don't want to look at :-) By the way : you can check out the way GUBA works without having to pay, but you will not be allowed to download anything for free - it's just good to get an idea about the system.
Final Verdict:
SkinVideo is the only logical solution for those of you, who want to get access to a huge amount of general porn stuff. Don't join SkinVideo if you want full length exclusive videos, or illegal stuff. But for the rest of it, SkinVideo has what you are looking for. Great site - sure worth the low subscription fee. Highly recommended to join.
